Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci Are Stunning Places in Tuscany
Bolgheri is an enchanting village in Tuscany, renowned for its surrounding landscapes and rich history. Nestled among hills and vineyards, it offers visitors a glimpse into traditional life in Tuscany. The area is complemented by a variety of gastronomic options and, of course, the famous local wines. The well-known cypress trees of Bolgheri line the road leading to this picturesque destination, creating an unforgettable entrance. In addition to its beauty, Bolgheri is also celebrated for its cultural events and hospitality, making it a must-visit stop for anyone exploring this charming village.
"The mist rises drizzling over the steep hills, and beneath the maestrale, the sea howls and glistens white."
We cannot miss the chance to visit Bolgheri, so loved by Carducci known as Giosuè and walk along the famous Cypress Avenue.
"Tall and straightforward, they go from San Guido in double row"
From the beautiful poem"In Front of San Guido" a small church beside the Cypress Avenue built in memory of Guido della Gherardesca.
"Why do you flee so quickly? - Oh beautiful little cypresses, my little cypresses, let me go: for now is no longer the time and that age. If only you knew!.. come now, I'm not just saying this, But today I am a celebrity."
Our hero, passing through the places of his childhood, is captivated by the landscape that evokes memories and sensations in him, which seem to carry a sense of longing. It is not redundant to say that this is roughly what is explained in school and that it apparently seems to describe the poet.
Curiosity: Giosuè Carducci spent his youth in Bolgheri and the entire village has an unbreakable bond with the poet; he too had one, especially for the house "of blonde Maria" the first love he regretted for his entire life.
Upon reaching the end of the Cypress Avenue, the entrance to the village is marked by the door of the Gherardesca Castle.
"The streets of the village, from the bubbling of the vats, carry the harsh scent of the wines, cheering the souls."
""Turn the burning logs on the spit, crackling: The hunter is whistling..."
*San Martino is one of the most famous poems by Giosuè Carducci.
Then a glass of Sassicaia, an icon of Made in Italy, or an Ornellaia, or any DOCG wine from the area. Stopping in one of the romantic little restaurants and perhaps making a detour to the Antinori shop at Guado al Tasso, possibly for a Bruciato or a Tignanello, just to name a few, is a good idea.
Bolgheri is a rare gem, a true hidden jewel, an almost obligatory stop for those seeking something truly extraordinary.
