The village of Suvereto is a full member of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy and has nevertheless been awarded the Orange Flag by the Touring Club Italia
The Orange Flag is a recognition that represents the highest environmental quality in terms of tourism, culture, and historical-artistic offerings.
We have already mentioned this village on a general page Strolling through seaside villages but it deserves a dedicated chapter of its own.
The village's current name, as we've seen previously, originates from Sughereto (literally, "Sughereto"), a reference to the rich surrounding woods. It sits suspended between the sea and the metalliferous hills, in that part of the Tuscan Maremma within the Etruscan Coast. It's not just about culture and historical and artistic heritage. Naturally, when talking about Suvereto, one can't forget "Olio e Vino" (Oil and Wine), as the village is part of the national circuits of Wine Cities, Oil Cities, and Slow Cities.
A tourist staying in San Vincenzo or the surrounding towns can easily reach it in just thirty minutes by car via a direct route via (Campiglia Marittima – Cafaggio – Suvereto, 25 km), see Google Maps at the bottom of the page.
Speaking of Campiglia Marittima, precisely... a stop is optional on this occasion, see the dedicated page Aperitif in Campiglia Marittima
We've included another optional gem in the map itinerary that can't go unnoticed. Near the village of Cafaggio, with a short detour, you can reach San Lorenzo, then continue to Suvereto, or take the direct route from Cafaggio to Suvereto, returning via San
Lorenzo. Two options are always better than one.
But why this detour? The answer is called Petra, Travellers' Choice 2025! Petra stands for Vino e Olio, a winery whose ultra-modern structure was designed by a renowned architect. It's always open, offering a variety of tastings and guided tours. We said always open, but you need to book your visit and/or tasting well in advance due to high demand. Here's the link where you'll find all the information about Petra.
Too modern? Look at it from the outside, and if you're looking for something more traditional for shopping and/or tasting, we recommend this other Travellers' Choice 2025 farm, Terradonnà in Suvereto, in the Notri area. It's family-run, not out of this world, but everything is exceptionally good. Indeed, two choices are always better than one. Here's the link to the farm in question: Terradonnà Azienda Agricola
This location (Notri) is also included in the route –map as an optional extra to the excursion to Suvereto.
